Onyinyechi Chima — On Being Missed Diagnosed
In this story, our Munirah Yaqoub speaks with Onyinyechi about being missed diagnosed. Unfortunately, too many Nigerian women have been missed diagnosed by doctors who are quick to dismiss their feelings, and even worse, fail to recognize obvious symptoms while labelling women as being too ‘emotional’ or ‘overreacting’.
‘I brought the referral letter for him to approve to allow me to meet the general cardiologist for the tests. However, he said there was no problem, and I was alright and should only come back only if the pains returned. The way he even said it was very “you no get the problem”, so I left.’

Tell Us About Your Female Friendships
Women hate women is something we often hear as Nigerians. But for many of us, it is simply not true. When we think of the ones who have had our backs through life’s greatest and not-so-great experiences, it was our girls.
Inspired by Vivian Nwajiaku, this is a celebration of the beautiful female friendships that many Nigerian women experience, share and enjoy. Think of it as a love letter to your best girls. Share your friendship story here or follow the link: bit.ly/sisluv
Submissions have now been extended to July 31, 2023. Rep your best girls and show them off, sis!
