The first letter, period poverty, an unashamed Nigerian woman, and fully funded opportunities for you!
Hey sister,
It’s Titilope here. I hope you had a good week. My week was so busy but so good! Anyhoo, I am so glad it's the weekend! I am here for all the rest (hopefully because adulting is… adulting).
This is our first-ever Sisterly HQ newsletter. There will never be another first episode of this Sisterly HQ newsletter. It’s amazing, truly!
In this week’s newsletter
This is how these Nigerian women experience periods.
Victoria has no shame and she wants you to let go of shame too.
Jobs, scholarships, fellowships and a free LinkedIn course for you in April 2023.
From our archives - some more period talk.
Stories
Period Diaries
In the Period Diaries series, 4 women shared what it's like menstruating for 3 - 7 days in Nigeria. In Episode 1, our diarist is a medical student in Lagos who experiences period poverty. She can not afford to use more than one pad in a day. Our second diarist’s period came 10 days late!
Period Diaries speaks about a taboo topic unapologetically and draws attention to menstrual health issues in Nigeria. We also highlighted 4 organizations that fight period poverty in Nigeria. Did you miss Period Diaries? Read the 4 Episodes here.
Victoria Willie - On Making A Name For Herself Through Storytelling
In this story, our Blessing Onyegbula speaks with Victoria Willie, brand storyteller, fashionista and founder of Svelte Magazine and Ria Kosher on being shameless and passionate in pursuing her dreams.
“Try to be shameless, my sweet sisters. Don’t be ashamed of the five likes or zero engagement you may get. Don’t even be afraid to make your mistakes in public. That’s how you grow.”

From Our Archives
Some time ago, our Munirah Yaqoub spoke with Karo Omu, founder of the Sanitary Aid Initiative, and founding member of the Feminist Coalition. In this story, she told us about tackling period poverty in Nigeria, female friendships and making a difference. Read Karo’s story here.
